Today is Valentine’s Day.
I grew up with this being a day celebrated by others. After all, it is “Saint Valentine’s Day” .(I know that Hallmark has been working overtime to make us all forget that first word in the title.) And, a child going to yeshiva (a Jewish [very] religious school) is not to be considering any day involving saints.
That upbringing didn’t do in my good stead with my fiance. No candy, no flowers, no cards on Valentine’s Day? It meant I didn’t love her. (Oh, she was Jewish- just of a different tradition- or is that of much fewer traditions?) So, I learned to participate in this “Hallmark Holiday”.
That didn’t mean I didn’t get accused of “not loving someone enough”. But, that’s not the purpose of this blog. (Yes, I truly believe that Men are from Mars and Women from Venus. I have recent proof!)
No, I’m wishing all of you readers the best Valentine’s Day. Because I love the fact that you read my blog. And, as such, I am borrowing two of the great card ideas produced my friend, Janette Fuller, to provide my wishes.
And, while it may be too late to have you purchase one of her grand creations- consider them for birthdays, next year’s Valentines, or any day of the week. Because her creations will prove you love the recipient. They’re that great.
Very creative – love the tinman! It’s a fun day, but like most holidays, has been over-commercialized. Like her personal touch on these cards. I have only given V Day cards to significant others since mom, my kids, etc. (as much as I love them) I don’t consider “lovers” :/

Thanks for the laugh, Alessa!
I give cards (nowadays) to those who touch me in my life. I give different ones to my children and grandchild… I have given different ones still to the SO’s of my life…
Enjoy your day- and hug your hubby and family!

The high school I went to was 60% Jewish, and they all celebrated Christmas. (Or was that Xmas?) But you are right, that is a very different life experience than attending a faith-based school.

Wow… That is some percentage! That is truly amazing to me, David…
Thanks for the visit and the comment…
Thank you so much for your kind words, Roy. This is a lovely Valentine’s Day surprise and a real honor to be featured on your blog.
Research shows that fewer people are sending cards and handwritten letters in the mail. I think this is a real shame and hope that the recipients of my cards know that each one is unique and handmade with love. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Me, too, Janette! Which is why I wanted to feature your cards- since they are certainly worth choosing!
Very nice, Roy. Love the cards! Happy ♥ Day (with or without the Saint). 🙂

To you, as well, Ms. M!
My wife and I do not celebrate Valentines Day so I get away cheap. There were/are actually three St valentines and as far as I can research, the first one was chosen for Feb. 14 because “the Church” aka Catholic church found that some “pagans” had a holiday on Feb 15th and as prone to happen with “the Church” they would create an offsetting holiday so that the “pagans” would not be tempted to worship their old “God” should they become “saved” So if you don’t sent me a card, that is ok, because I am sending no cards for much the same reason that you don’t.

But, give your wife a hug and kiss anyway- just because you love her so much, Chef William. Not that you need any advice from me!
