Blogiversary

And, the winner (sic?) is….

What goes around, comes around?

This is the third time I’ve been “granted” the “Liebster” award.    This time, my nominator was Brenda Marie Fluharty.  (I bet she thought I didn’t pay attention.  Sorry, BM, my queues are long!  And, besides, this award goes hand in hand with the Ultimate Blog month-long marathon!)

I thank her for this nomination.   (Her blog sites have just been redone and can be found here.)

The rules for the awardees are a little different than before, so I will repeat them.  Mostly because I am supposed to nominate a few others, who must then follow the (new) rules.

  1. One must acknowledge the blog from which one is nominated.
  2. One must display the award.
  3. One must answer the 11 questions posed by the nominator.
  4. On top of that, one must denote 11 random facts about oneself.
  5. 11 new nominees must be named.  (I admit I may fall short here.)
  6. The nominator gets to choose the 11 questions for the nominees.

So, now, I will answer Brenda Marie’s questions.

  1.  I started blogging because I was sending my clients and friends a ton of eMail each and every day.  I still send my friends stuff, but my clients now have the opportunity to read my blog- or not.
  2. I can’t answer this question, because I am not really bored.  Oh, wait.  If I am stuck in a lecture or meeting that is boring, I will sleep.
  3. My long term goal is to keep developing new products and processes (including financial concepts) all the time.  My old goal was two new products or processes a year; but I’m old now, so I’ll settle for one great improvement annually.
  4. My favorite TV shows are “The Good Doctor”, “BlindSpot”, “BlueBloods”, “NCIS” [all but New Orleans], “Kevin Probably Saves the World”, “Outlander”, and “Bill Maher”.   No common thread, obviously.
  5.  My three favorite songs are “The Syncopated Clock” [LeRoy Anderson], “Halleluyah” [Leonard Cohen], and “Something” (McCartney/Lennon].  I have about ten more.
  6. My 2018 goal is to double our corporate net earnings.
  7. I no longer have any pets.  The last one was a Royal Blue Poodle, Robespierre du Bellmore (who we called Robby).
  8. I am passionate about learning.  My daily goal is to learn (at least) one new fact each and every day.
  9. Besides English, I speak Hebrew (fairly well), French (barely acceptably), and can read other languages without being able to speak them.
  10. My ideal weekend activity depends upon the time of year and where I am.  I would love to be on the beach (that means there are waves- substantial ones), canoeing, or riding my bike.  If the weather is not accommodating, spending time with friends discussing politics and current events.  If that doesn’t work, there’s TV and reading a book (yes, simultaneously).
  11. My favorite season is all four.  Because I love seeing the sprouting of vegetation, the (dis)coloration of the leaves, snow, and the beach.

Hmm.  11 random facts.

  1. I am very lucky that I have wonderful, well-adjusted children.  Oh, wait.  Well-adjusted adults.
  2. I am one of those Jews who keeps the rules of kashrut and prays every single day.
  3. I am a radical constitutionalist.  I understand that the constitution- despite the insidious claims of the WrongWing- is not a static document, but must adjust to the times.  (Just like Halacha adopts to modernity, without leaving the considerations of the rules of the Supreme Being.)
  4. I really am a polymath.  I have studied (and mastered) chemical engineering, industrial microbiology, finance, accounting, taxation, business management, computer systems, among other technologies/disciplines.
  5. I truly do time-slice.  I understand that there are periods of inactivity that lets (at least some of) us seem to perform multiple tasks as once.
  6. I have been told I do everything quickly, but one thing.  (Sorry, no X-rated discussions here).
  7. I do not suffer those who invent facts well.  No, that’s wrong.  They are fodder for sarcasm, ridicule, and ostracism.
  8.  I am a most lucky individual.  I have survived more than anyone’s fair share of calamities.
  9. I cry at movies.    Not the comedies, of course!
  10. I have a wonderful complement of best friends.  Not one, not two, but at least five.
  11. Besides being a technocrat, I adore art, music, and the theater.

And, now (I don’t hear any drum rolls- come on, get with the plan), the nominees for the Liebster award are….

  1. Alana Mautone.   Ramblin with AM.  Alana posts a bunch of photos, great music,  and some local stories, to boot.
  2. Alice Gerard.  Alice’s Grand Adventures.  Life and photos from the great northern region of New York State.
  3. Paul Taubman.   Digital Maestro.  Everything you want to know about WordPress.
  4. Marcia Kester Doyle. Menopausal Mom. Who Stole Her Spandex? and other vagaries of life as an older, hilarious woman.
  5. Meg Jerrard.  MappingMegan    Traveling to the most interesting places in the world- and doing so at a reasonable cost.
  6. Gaetane Ferland.   Her eponymous blog covers food and recipes.  OK, sometimes she has some pretty incorrect ideas, but you can figure them out.  (Last week, she wanted us to preheat an oven for 30 minutes.  Like that was good for our pocketbook – or the environment.)
  7. Martha Jane Orlando.  Another eponymous blogger, who writes about her family (and extended family) from a Christian point of view.
  8. Holly Jahangiri.  Jeez!  Another eponymous blogger.   Holly writes her thoughts from the left hand side of the spectrum.   Not too far left (far to the right of me, so…)
  9. Marian Allen.   Marian has a few blogs, so I will let her choose which one she wants to secure for her reward.   She writes about fantasy/science fiction, food (mostly vegetarian choices), and doors.  Yes. doors!
  10. Vidya Tiru.  The Lady in Read (VT) writes about books (d-uh, with that moniker, what would you expect)- and a slew of other topices.

Sorry, there aren’t 11 because Brenda Marie stole a few of my choices for her nominees!

There you have it.

I’ve hopefully NOT kept you bored for 982 words.

  1. Was NOT bored. Always love reading your posts, you are so much more intellectual than I (me?) and you don’t show off your intellect with your words. I am either entertained or learn something from your posts. Thanks

  2. This was fun to read. I also love all NCIS. The other shows l haven’t seen in these parts. Amazing your being a polymath. Extremely impressive and congratulations on the award.

  3. Congratulations!! It was great to get to know you a little better. I was delighted to see that you also like The Good Doctor & Kevin Probably Saves the World. My son and I do, too! And I love all your choices for the award.

  4. Thank you very much for the nomination, and congrats on the third time winning the Leibster award! It was fun getting to know more about you from Brenda’s questions and your random facts!

  6. Thank you, Roy! You know where I was when I saw this, and I hope I can be forgiven for taking an extra day or two to compose my acceptance speech. (Once again, you don’t make this easy – with your blocks on copying and pasting and stealing images. I hope you realize what a challenge it is!) Anyway, thank you…
